War,
technology
& innovation
My research examines how international relations are shaped by the development, production and diffusion of military technology, particularly in the air domain. This ranges from British fighter jet procurement during the Cold War to the UK’s resumption of an airborne nuclear deterrent today. I bring a multidisciplinary perspective to these topics, having trained in both engineering (Oxford) and security studies (King’s).
To ensure this research is empirically informed and has real-world impact, I work closely with military and policy practitioners. This includes serving as Parliamentary Researcher to The Lord Stirrup, former Chief of the Defence Staff (2006–2010). Previously, I held roles at NATO Headquarters and the Smithsonian Institution, the latter as a Guggenheim Fellow. I continue to support a range of public and private sector clients, and media outlets such as the BBC and The Conversation, on subjects spanning drones to the "Chinese Spy Balloon."
I am a PhD candidate in War Studies at the Freeman Air and Space Institute, King’s College London, and a Researcher with the RUSI-led Nuclear Deterrence Network.
